When to Replace Your Car Battery
The warning signs that you need a new battery, and making sure you're able to identify them is a good start. The most common signs include:
- A battery light coming on in your gauge cluster
- Your vehicle taking longer to start up
- The car routinely won't start in cold weather
With any of these signs, it's a good idea to get your battery tested, as we test to see how much power is left in the battery and how much of a charge it is able to hold. If it merely needs a recharge because you may have accidentally left on interior lights overnight, for example, we can do that here at the dealership to get it back up to power using a specialized unit we have at the dealership to power it up. If you need a new battery, we can discuss replacement options with you and install them at the dealership.
It's important to replace your battery when its power has reached below the standard levels, because you want to make sure your car starts and can stay running. This is particularly true in colder months, as you don't want to be left stranded in a vehicle that won't start when the temperatures are low, and you're far away from roadside services having to wait for assistance.
Some other signs to consider? Check for corroded terminals, or if you have flickering headlights, even after a bulb replacement.
